UM joins National Consortium to Support Military, Veteran, and Family Success on campus
On October 30, 2024, the University of Manitoba officially joined the Canadian Military Veteran and Family Connected Campus Consortium (CMVF3C), an initiative that unites universities, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and Military Family Services (MFS) in a shared commitment to support students with military connections. This consortium is dedicated to creating inclusive environments that recognize and address the unique needs of military members, veterans, and their families, fostering their academic, social, and professional success.
UM’s participation in the consortium builds on its longstanding support for Canada’s military community, which began in 1974 with the Canadian Forces University Program and continues through the Military Support Office established in 2006. As one of Canada’s leading institutions in prior learning assessment for military training, UM is recognized for its commitment to helping military students leverage their skills and experiences in academic and career pathways.
This partnership will enhance UM’s capacity to offer targeted resources and programs for military and veteran students and their families, contributing to the broader goals of the CMVF3C. By joining this collaborative effort, UM commits to sharing best practices, creating awareness of military educational benefits, and fostering a supportive campus environment that values military-connected individuals.
“The UM Military Support Office (MSO) is proud to be a founding member of this national endeavour and looks forward to the collaboration opportunities that will emerge from the partnership.” Says Dr. Diane Hiebert-Murphy, Provost and Vice-President (Academic).
UM’s participation also offers new opportunities for the entire UM community to engage with military-connected individuals, benefiting from their unique perspectives and skills while supporting their transition to civilian life. This partnership will help build a more inclusive and dynamic campus, enriching the UM experience for all.
