Ronald Guse’s four-decade career has had two central, interlocking themes: patient-centred care and the evolving role of pharmacists. The UM alumnus is known for his long, productive tenure, from 1999 to 2016, as the registrar of the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM). Adding to his many accomplishments and accolades, Guse recently received the College of Pharmacy’s Alumni of Distinction Award for his leadership and achievements in the profession.

UM alumnus creates first endowed dentistry lectureship

William Pope [M.D./70, LL.B/97] wanted to do something special for his wife Dr. Elizabeth Tippett Pope’s 75th birthday so he established a lectureship at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry in her name that will carry on her ideals for years to come.

UM researchers develop handheld test for chronic kidney disease

Researchers at the University of Manitoba have developed a credit card-sized device to test for chronic kidney disease so compact and inexpensive that patients will be able to take the test at home. Test results would be available in just five minutes from a handheld device, called the Microfluidic Albumin Testing Lab on Chip (MATLOC).
