Dr. Anuprita Kanitkar is co-developing a computer game-based rehab platform that helps clients improve their arm or hand function after a stroke or spinal cord injury.

A scientist from the University of Manitoba has been awarded a national training network to help prepare the next generation of researchers to run clinical trials in the areas of pregnancy and pediatrics.

Valerie Williams is inspired to do the pivotal work she does in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion because she believes deeply that every person – regardless of their identity – should be treated with dignity.

Scientists from the University of Manitoba and the National Biomedical Research Institute in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are joining forces to investigate the recent global spread of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) and the evolving virus that causes the illness.   

January 6, 2023 — 
A pop-up exhibit on the Fort Garry campus will display artworks by 32 cancer patients who participated in a novel therapy group at CancerCare Manitoba.  The free exhibit will be on view Jan. 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the atrium of the Helen Glass Centre for Nursing, home of the College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.

January 6, 2023 — 
Laura MacDonald [Dip.D.Hyg./81, M.Ed./87, PhD/21] was recently in a videoconference with students from the bachelor of science in dental hygiene program. When the learners finished their presentation, MacDonald, who was working from home, gave them a standing ovation at her dining room table.

Lisa Lix [M.Sc./91, PhD/95] took an unusual path to becoming an internationally recognized biostatistician.

As 2022 draws to a close, I want to wish everyone in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences community, and your loved ones, a healthy and restful holiday season.

Gayle Halas [Dip.D.Hyg./87, PhD/16] has taken a long journey as an educator and researcher since starting her career as a clinical dental hygienist. A key lesson of that journey, she says, is that health is multifaceted, with needs based on physiological, emotional and social factors.

Monika Warren [BN/90] says her proudest leadership moments always involve interprofessional teamwork. “When you include everyone’s voice in the conversation, the team feels empowered and will work together to find innovative solutions,” says Warren, who was appointed by Shared Health in January 2022 as Manitoba’s new chief operating officer for provincial health services and chief nursing officer.
