On Dec. 3, the Liberal government tabled Bill C-15, an Act respecting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), fulfilling their election promise to introduce such legislation by the end of 2020.

In a normal fall term, Robson Hall would have held its annual in-house advocacy moot competition of the year, the Solomon Greenberg, right about now. Competitors for that moot are usually selected from top performers in the previous March's advocacy class competition. The pandemic cancelled that, leaving us with no Solomon Greenberg competitors.

Winnipeg Free Press reporter Susie Strachan interviewed former Dean of Law Jack London, C.M., Q.C., LL.M. [LLB/66] for a story that appeared in the Sou'wester on October 23, 2020. The alumnus and former law professor who is still senior council at Pitblado LLP, was interviewed prior to appearing as a guest speaker at a virtual Faculty of Law alumni event. He had just launched his published memoirs at McNally Robinson Booksellers on October 15, titled Serendipity: My path through life and law. With gathering together off the table this fall, the Faculty of Law still found a way to bring alumni "home" to celebrate two beloved professors and catch up on the latest law faculty goings-on. A 200-plus-person Zoom call held November 5th bore witness to the celebration of Professor John Irvine's 50th year of teaching at the Faculty of Law, and a fireside chat-style visit with former dean of law (1979-1984) Jack R. London, C.M., Q.C., LL.M. [LLB/66].

Fifteenth Annual Robson Hall Negotiation Competition a Success

Sixteen teams of Robson Hall students competed in the fifteenth annual Robson Hall Negotiation Competition on the evening of October 29th, 2020. These third-year students were selected for having excelled in the Legal Negotiation course they took in their second year of law school. The main purpose of the competition is to develop superb negotiating skills in Robson Hall graduates. All legal training and professional expertise is directed toward one key objective—solving a client’s problems. Negotiation is a primary tool for accomplishing precisely that.
