Talking about microbes and meaningful change

“What I wanted to do with my life led me to microbiology… Being able to help or to shape the environment in a positive way using what we have,” said Steve Daley when we asked him why he chose microbiology. Daley is a PhD student in the department of microbiology, University of Manitoba, conducting his research on ethanol production. Watch the full interview on the Faculty of Science's YouTube channel.

‘It’s not just a moment’

Warren Clarke tells a story about a moment in early childhood when he excitedly expressed that he wanted to become a bus driver. His dad, who’d come to visit, got visibly upset. As much as he didn’t understand at the time, he says he’s thought through this moment in light of his current position as a professor, and with the knowledge he now has.
