Great start for herd

The Manitoba Bisons football team went into Saskatoon and came out on top 34-28 to start their regular season. Bisons first year running back/kick returner Jamel Lyles was named Canada West Offence Football Athlete of the Week. The first year running back scored on a 58 yard touchdown run in the second quarter to bring the herd to a one point deficit after down as many as 13 points in the first half.

The Bison women’s soccer team is ready for their 11th season in CIS action. Third-year Bison head coach Vanessa Martinez Lagunas has lead an intense and competitive training camp, plus pre-season schedule, for Manitoba’s 25-person roster.

103 student-athletes qualified for CIS Academic All-Canadian status at the end of the 2014-15 season by maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (80%) or better in their field of study at the University of Manitoba. This is the fifth consecutive season that 85 or more Bison student-athletes have achieved this national recognition.
