U of M hosts international conference focused on improving outcomes for vulnerable migrant populations in Canada and beyond
June 12, 2018 —
Multicultural receiving countries, such as Canada, usually assist in the integration of immigrants and refugees by removing most barriers to their participation in their new homeland, often leading to positive outcomes and a stronger sense of belonging in the long run. However, some migrants face additional challenges shaped by systemic inequities, particularly with regard to their lack of access to resources and decision-making processes that inevitably have a negative impact on their lives. As a result, this population is more vulnerable to poor educational, health, and social processes.
