It wasn’t until the beginning of the pandemic that Asper student Jessica Burtnick considered taking an MBA. Burtnick, who started the MBA program in January 2021 as an occasional student was recently appointed as the new Director of Marketing and Sales at Frontiers North Adventures (FNA), a local sustainable tourism business that specializes in polar bear, beluga whale, and northern lights experiences in Churchill, Manitoba.

Naawi-Oodena “centre of the heart and community” to become Canada’s largest urban reserve

As the winter melt begins, so does the construction of Canada’s largest urban reserve, Naawi-Oodena. The massive project involving the evolution of the Kapyong Barracks site into an urban reserve with world class attractions is led by Asper alumnus Whelan Sutherland [BComm(Hons)/06], CEO, and Tim Daniels, Chief Development Officer for the Treaty One Development Corporation.

Asper alum creates business out of non-alcoholic elixirs

“You’re my fourth Zoom meeting of the day,” laughs Leanne Kisil [BComm(Hons)/09] who recently moved from Winnipeg to Vancouver. “I’ve been here since August for a couple of reasons, including looking for a B.C. distributor, I am closer to some of the U.S. stores on the West Coast, and it’s where my partner lives.” Kisil is the owner and self-titled Chief Alchemy Officer of Solbrü, a company that creates non-alcoholic elixirs made of mushrooms, herbs, and other organic ingredients.

The Stu Clark Graduate School at the Asper School of Business is excited to launch three new co-op programs for professional graduate students, building on the success of Asper’s award-winning Bachelor of Commerce Co-op Program. Starting this summer, the first cohort of students from the Master of Business Administration (MBA) will start their work placements, followed by the Master of Finance students in fall 2022 and the Master of Supply Chain Management and Logistics students during the summer of 2023.
