Let’s make a deal

August 25, 2015 —

University of Manitoba alumnus Monty Hall [BSc/46], best known as host of the television game show Let’s Make a Deal, celebrates his 94th birthday on August 25, 2015.

Hall was born and raised in Winnipeg’s North End and had the opportunity to attend the U of M thanks to financial support. He graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and zoology. Hall was senior stick of science in 1944 and served as president of the University of Manitoba Students Union in 1945.

Monty Hall was awarded an honorary degree from the U of M in 1987, not for his celebrity status, but for his charitable and philanthropic career on behalf of the disabled, the diseased and the underprivileged. In 1988 he was awarded the Order of Canada for his humanitarian work around the world.

Monty Hall was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Daytime Emmy Awards. This video tribute was produced for that event and speaks to Hall’s impact on show business and his commitment to the underprivileged.
