CJOB: Grad Students Association opposes large increase to continuing fees
CJOB reported that with continuing fees for grad students about to skyrocket, the Graduate Students Association is protesting the increase:
The President of the University of Manitoba’s Grad Students Association (UMGSA) says a proposal to increase a continuing fee from 7-hundred dollars to 3-thousand over three years could create a lot of hardship. Laura Remple tells 680 CJOB the lower fees work to the university’s advantage.
“It attracts a lot of international students and other students who have need for a more flexible education, whether that be part time students or students with families. An increase would make this a lot more challenging for them to participate in further education.”
Graduate Studies Dean Jay Doering says the fee increase would allow the University to provide better support services, and would be on par with what other universities charge.
