University of Manitoba Community Law Centre Launches Prison Law Clinic

Upon identifying a gap in legal services for individuals held in custody in federal prisons, the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre (UMCLC) has taken steps to address this issue by launching the province’s first Prison Law Clinic.

After graduating from UM with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and working for a few years in emergency rooms and intensive care, Trinh Nguyen-Lu returned to the College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences as a clinical instructor in 2017. At the time, she had no plans to become a graduate student, but that changed when she saw that she could make a difference in preparing the next generation of nurses.

My father, the late professor Lawrence Fitzroy Douglas, accepted a position in the department of sociology at the University of Manitoba in 1967. He was the first Black faculty member in the department and one of its four founding members.
