Social work students explore role in healthcare through interprofessional learning : Network News
December 9, 2024 — This fall, a cohort of social work students participated in an interprofessional learning experience with the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. This event emphasized the importance of social work practice in addressing the intersection of individuals and their environments in healthcare settings. During the event, a screening of Falling Through the Cracks: Greg’s Story, depicted the tragic death of Greg Price and highlighted systemic issues in healthcare, including the need for improved communication. “‘Greg’s Wings’ provided a meaningful learning experience for students, particularly in the context of healthcare collaboration and the challenges faced within this system,” said Vicki Verge, Instructor and Faculty-Field Liaison, Faculty of Social Work.

December 6, 2024 — On October 11, 2024, law students at the University of Manitoba’s L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic had the unique opportunity to meet in person with the Clinic’s benefactor, L. Kerry Vickar [LLB/1980], and his wife, Simone Vickar. This visit allowed students to showcase what they’ve learned through the Clinic and to gain insights from an alum whose entrepreneurial vision has helped shaped their legal education.

CBC Manitoba: Pinaymootang Health Centre helps fill health-care gaps for First Nation, surrounding communities : Network News
December 6, 2024 — A Manitoba First Nation is helping to bridge the gap in health-care services not only for its members, but for multiple surrounding Interlake communities. The Pinaymootang Health Centre helps care for thousands of Manitobans every year, but nearly half of its clientele comes from outside Pinaymootang First Nation. "We see 47 per cent of clients that come in from various areas," health director Gwen Traverse said. "Whether the surrounding First Nations or the non-Indigenous communities that utilize our services." Gwen Traverse is currently a student in the Distance Delivery Southern Cohort BSW program.

Master of Landscape Architecture Program 50th Anniversary Student Recruitment Scholarship : Network News
December 6, 2024 — The Department of Landscape Architecture is delighted to announce the establishment of a new entrance scholarship to commemorate 50 years of learning and teaching landscape architecture in Manitoba. The University of Manitoba’s Master of Landscape Architecture program celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. During the academic year 2022-2023, various festive events occurred, including fundraising for a new recruitment scholarship. Since then, we have achieved our first fundraising milestone, $25,000, which will establish the endowment fund and launch the Master of Landscape Architecture Program 50th Anniversary Student Recruitment Scholarship in 2025.
