Academic Learning Centre Tutors
Supporting Student Success
Now that we’re in the fourth week of Winter term, do you have questions about how and when to study? Are you struggling to understand some course concepts? Are you stuck writing a paper? Do you feel like you’re falling behind? There has never been a better time to meet with a tutor to help you get back on track.
“Individual tutoring is our most popular service,” said Monique Dumontet, Director of the Academic Learning Centre. In Fall 2022, the Academic Learning Centre provided 3155 individual tutoring appointments. “Academic Learning Centre tutors help students build their academic skills and develop study strategies, so they can be successful, or even more successful,” Dumontet added. “All kinds of UM students meet with our tutors—from first-year students to Phd. candidates, full-time and part-time students, struggling students and high-performing students.”
Individual student tutoring is free and offered both in-person and online. Make an appointment on the Academic Learning Centre’s online schedule.
- Content tutoring: over 90 UM courses, including BIO, CHEM, MATH, STATS.
- Study Skills tutoring: note-taking, time management, study strategies, test prep.
- Writing tutoring: available at any stage of the writing process (understanding assignments, developing a thesis, citing and referencing).
In addition to individual tutoring, the Academic Learning Centre also offers a variety of workshops, Virtual Study Hall (Thursdays, 6:00-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 3:00-5:00 p.m.) and Supplemental Instruction (SI).
