UM flexible work program continues

Program materials, application form available on UM Intranet site

May 17, 2023 —

As recommended through significant consultation with the UM community, UM units will have the option of continuing to allow flexible work arrangements currently in place for support staff based on operational needs.

As a Manitoba Top Employer, UM must balance this approach with its mission and vision of providing an outstanding teaching and learning environment as an in-person work and learning environment. The University continues to sustain effective services on-campus, especially to students, to promote and maintain a vibrant campus life and support an exceptional student experience.

Similar to the previous informal flexible work program, managers/supervisors will decide when these arrangements can be accommodated based on the needs of their unit(s).

In consultation with managers/supervisors, employees may work from home up to two days per week. If supported, employees can make this request by submitting a Flexible Work Program Request-Agreement application.

Flexible work program materials and supports are available on UM Intranet. These include flexible program guidelines, a manager’s tool kit, a flexible work application form and a safety checklist. (Note: You must be logged in with your @umanitoba.ca employee address to access UM Intranet content.)

The University recognizes that managers and supervisors hold unique responsibilities for supporting their team members. In addition to program materials, to help support managers working with hybrid teams, Learning and Organizational Development (LOD) has prepared a new workshop called Managing Hybrid Teams. The workshop is available to managers and supervisors. Watch for sessions this Fall 2023.

For staff currently on an interim flexible work arrangement who wish to continue, your application to remain in the program should be submitted by August 31, 2023.  Please visit the UM Intranet site for more details.
