This Spring Convocation the University of Manitoba celebrates the achievements of over 4300 graduands and recognizes the distinguished achievements of five honorary degree recipients who have made our province and country better.

Law student honours teachers’ passion, knowledge, and sincerity

This year’s STRR reception was held on May 2 with Seth Lozinski (they/them) selected as the Faculty of Law’s Outstanding Student. In turn, Lozinski chose their high school French teacher Ingrid Moehlmann and Assistant Professor Brandon Trask from the Faculty of Law as teachers who had the biggest impact on their education.

Supreme Court Justice inspires philosophical discussion

April 16, 2024 — 
The Faculty of Law was pleased to welcome The Honourable Malcolm Rowe, a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, to visit with law students on March 28, 2024. Students, professors and legal professionals filled the Moot Courtroom to first hear him give a short lecture on the work of late SCC Justice Ivan Rand regarding Freedom of Expression, and later open the floor to questions facilitated by law students Logan Nadeau (1L), and Talia David (3L).

Robson Hall Coffee House revival

April 9, 2024 — 
The Manitoba Law Students' Association's Spirit and Community Outreach committees hosted a revival of the annual Robson Hall Coffee House on March 22 at VW Social Club. The event is an opportunity for law students and faculty members to reveal hidden talents for a good cause.

To celebrate the achievements of graduates, the Faculty of Law created the Faculty of Law Alumni Awards which are presented annually in three categories: Outstanding Alumni Award, Emerging Leader Award, and the Trailblazer Award. Time well spent on Difficult Conversations

This year the Faculty of Law provided training on developing basic conflict resolution skills to members of the law school faculty and administrative staff. The six engaging workshops, led by Winnipeg company Facilitated Solutions, were designed to inspire while providing practical tools for dealing with everything from everyday tensions to highly charged social and political realities.

Louis Riel Day Celebration draws full house at Robson Hall

February 28, 2024 — 
Before taking a winter term break, law students packed the Robson Hall Common Room on February 13 to experience Métis culture at an event held in honour of Louis Riel Day. The Manitoba Indigenous Law Students’ Association organized a program of traditional food, dance, beading art and a panel sharing the knowledge of Métis community members with fellow students and faculty.

Supreme Court of Canada Justice Michelle O’Bonsawin advises Robson Hall students to believe in themselves and work hard

“Anything is possible if you really believe and you work hard,” The Honourable Michelle O’Bonsawin, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada told a room full of law students and professors On February 6 when she visited Robson Hall. She spent quality time answering questions and sharing lived experiences with the Faculty of Law community.
