July 7, 2025 — 
The D.G. & V.E. Barber Memorial Fellowship in Arctic Research is intended to honour Dr. Barber’s commitment to the next generation of Arctic researchers. The recipients from Spring Convocation 2025 have been selected and are highlighted below.

The Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources is proud to celebrate the latest winners of the faculty’s Teaching Awards.

May 12, 2025 — 
To celebrate the achievements of graduates, the Faculty of Law created the Faculty of Law Alumni Awards which are presented annually. This year, winners were selected in the categories of: Outstanding Alumni Award and Emerging Leader Award. Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 UM Law Alumni Awards: The Honourable Catherine Carlson, Judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba [BA/83; LLB/86], Outstanding Alumni Award Kevin Sharma [JD/19; LLM/22], Emerging Leader Award

February 5, 2025 — 
Recognized for their leadership potential, University of Manitoba student Elora Cromarty (BA'25) and graduate Rachel Cluett (BA'24) are finalists for the McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill. The two finalists will travel to Montreal to attend final interviews in March, with travel expenses covered by the scholarship program.

December 16, 2024 — 
The Faculty of Graduate Studies is thrilled to announce the 2025 edition of its highly anticipated Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition, offering graduate students an exciting platform to showcase their research, hone their communication skills, and engage with the broader community.

November 27, 2024 — 
The proverb “the more things change, the more they stay the same” remains true today, even where the Internet is concerned. This year’s winning paper of the Muriel St. John Research Award for Women’s Legal Issues was written for a course titled Law, Technology and the Future, but dealt with the age-old issue of women being sexually exploited non-consensually. For the first time, the former law librarian’s award was presented to a law student identifying as male. Ms. St. John was delighted to present Chad Laferriere-Enns [JD/2024] with her award in-person at The Faculty of Law’s Student Achievement Awards Reception on October 29, 2024.

November 26, 2024 — 
On November 21, UM honoured 24 exemplary individuals with the title of Emeritus, which included a Vice-President Emerita and three Distinguished Professor Emeriti.

September 26, 2024 — 
Members of the University of Manitoba student community are active and contribute to building a better environment for their peers, and the Student Affairs Participation Award seeks to recognize students who manage to balance these voluntary commitments. This year, we congratulate Biosystems Engineering student Makenna Coldwell who is the 2024 recipient of the Student Affairs Participation Award.
