Members of the University of Manitoba student community are active and contribute to building a better environment for their peers, and the Student Affairs Participation Award seeks to recognize students who manage to balance these voluntary commitments. This year, we congratulate Biosystems Engineering student Makenna Coldwell who is the 2024 recipient of the Student Affairs Participation Award.

Department of City Planning Professor Rae St. Clair Bridgman was awarded two top honours from the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group for her latest book.

June 22, 2024 — 
5468796 Architecture Inc. honored with a 2024 Governor General's Medal in Architecture for their Winnipeg Pumphouse project.  

June 10, 2024 — 
The University of Manitoba's 2024 Gold Medalist in Law, Keelin Griffin was drawn to the legal profession in order to do work that was “interesting, complex and challenging,” that would also allow her to work with and for people in order to make meaningful change.

On May 21, over 30 faculty were recognized for exceptional teaching, research and service at a reception held at Marshall McLuhan in UMSU University Centre.

May 15, 2024 — 
Amy Carpenter, a sessional instructor in the Faculty of Education, is the 2024 recipient of the Migizii Award. Carpenter received the award at the University of Manitoba’s 35th Annual Traditional Graduation Pow Wow on May 4.

December 15, 2023 — 
For the fourth time in five years, a law student at Robson Hall has won the annual Canadian Bar Association Charities and Not-for-Profit Law Section’s student essay-writing contest. Robert Johnstone is a third-year Juris Doctor student whose winning paper was titled “The Secularization of Philanthropy: Examining the Potential Revocation of the Roman Catholic Church’s Charitable Status.”

December 11, 2023 — 
The Faculty of Law honoured the lives and legacies of alumni and members of the Manitoba legal community at its annual Student Achievement Awards reception November 1, 2023. The Faculty welcomed families and friends of donors and loved ones in whose names awards were established, to meet face-to-face, the students who would be receiving the meaningful support intended to help them complete their degrees.

Join the National Gallery of Canada for the live-streamed Opening Reception of the Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts 2023 exhibition, featuring School of Art Professor and recipient of the esteemed Saidye Bronfman Award, Grace Nickel.
