Eligible faculty and staff to enjoy 2016 premium holiday

Staff benefits committee approves premium holiday for supplementary health plan

September 12, 2016 —

The Supplementary Health Plan has performed better than expected and a premium holiday has been recommended by the Staff Benefits Committee.

Faculty and staff who participate in the Supplementary Health Plan will not have to pay Supplementary Health premium for seven pay periods.

Seasonal/sessional employees participating in the Supplementary Health Plan will not have to pay for five pay periods since these premiums are pro-rated during the academic  year.

The premium holiday will occur during the pay periods outlined in the table below. You may notice a small increase in net pay during this time as the deduction for Supplementary Health premium will be temporarily suspended. A small pay reduction may occur when the deduction resumes.

I assume the premium holiday applies to me as a Senior Scholar and participant in the Supplemental Health Plan. Is this correct?

      Hello David,

Thanks for your message. If you are a retiree in the retiree plan, then unfortunately you are not eligible for this premium holiday. I received this information from Dave Muir, Director, Compensation and Benefits, Human Resources and he is happy to discuss this further with you.
