Honour Louis Riel Day by plugging into upcoming Métis virtual events

Whether you are looking to get more active, or are eager to learn more about Métis history, there’s a virtual event for you

February 9, 2021 —

When Laura Forsythe came across a quote by Métis Elder Rose Fleury, she was inspired to create a space that would allow people to gather and honour the ways of their ancestors. The quote by Elder Rose Fleury states that “women need to gather again as this is how we evolved socially, politically, spiritually and economically.” Forsythe, the Métis inclusion coordinator for the Indigenous Student Centre (ISC), responded by creating a virtual meeting circle called ‘ee-kaakiihtwaami-maawachihitoyaahk lii faam’, which translates into ‘women gathering together once again.’

The women’s group is one of many opportunities for UM students, staff, faculty and community to plug into the wide-scope of virtual opportunities to engage in Métis culture.
