Volunteer at UM Orientation 2020!
Student volunteers needed to welcome new students to campus
Volunteering with UM Orientation 2020 offers a chance for current students to help welcome new students to the U of M.
Through a series of events held in the spring and summer, culminating with Welcome Day in September, UM Orientation offers some of the first experiences that new students will have with the University of Manitoba. These events introduce new students to the U of M campus and prepare them for university life with academic sessions, workshops, information fairs and opportunities to meet fellow new students.
Orientation volunteers and more experienced Orientation team leaders build skills in leadership and communication, and receive credit on their co-curricular record (CCR). Volunteering also offers the opportunity to meet people and make new connections, and share pride in the U of M community.
After volunteering with UM Orientation in 2018, Nura Elagaili, a 3rd year Human Nutritional Sciences student, returned in 2019 as an Orientation team leader, helping lead other volunteers. Nura found volunteering to be a fulfilling experience; she says, “Volunteering gave me the opportunity to meet new people know more about the university in terms of campus and resources, and I have gained a lot of benefits from volunteering including time management, communication, and leadership skills.”
Nura encourages other students to get involved with UM Orientation 2020: “The satisfaction of helping others and having a positive impact is very rewarding. You get to learn more about yourself, your strengths, and develop new skills.”
All volunteers will receive training in a fun, relaxed and supportive environment. There are lots of other perks to getting involved too, like meeting new people and fun volunteer appreciation events.
