Selected scenes from films: A fundraiser for Snakeskin Jacket
Snakeskin Jacket has announced SELECTED SCENES FROM FILM, a fundraiser for the company’s 2015/16 season of plays, being held on Saturday, May 30. The one-night-only event will consist of an eclectic group of local film enthusiasts including screenwriter, director and film guru George Toles, filmmakers Jorge Requena and Jim Agapito, actors Darcy Fehr, Talia Pura and Rodrigo Beilfuss, and others introducing and screening their favourite scenes from their favourite movies. A reception will be held immediately afterwards in the company’s new performance space, Studio 315.
The goal of SELECTED SCENES FROM FILMS is to raise money to assist Snakeskin Jacket in producing a full season of plays in 2015/16. Snakeskin Jacket has been creating and producing acclaimed theatre for nine years with no funding from the government and relies solely on ticket sales, donations from generous supporters, and money out of its own pockets for survival. This is the company’s first fundraiser. The event follows the company’s recently lauded Bravura Theatre co-production of Hamlet (2015), as well as Wang Dang (2014) and The Wife (2013). A full list of past productions, as well as more information about the company, can be found at www.snakeskinjacket.ca
Snakeskin Jacket is an interdependent theatre company located in Winnipeg, MB that began in 2006 when a group of friends banded together to produce Daniel MacIvor’s The Soldier Dreams. It is fair to say that we began as a fringe theatre company. It is also true that we are Black Hole at the core. Ultimately, however, we have grown into much more. Snakeskin Jacket now produces a re-occurring festival of new short plays and films, as well as inspired theatrical productions. Snakeskin Jacket believes in the writer: Noonan, Shepard, Guare, and the others. Snakeskin Jacket believes in friends, the artist, and the truth.
