2017 Bison highlights

December 19, 2017 — 

In 2017, the Manitoba Bisons had several highlights across all of their sports. Here are just a few of the many accomplishments from the herd:

BISON MEN’S HOCKEY CAPTAIN & FKRM STUDENT EARNS NOTEWORTHY SCHOLARSHIP

The inaugural Fleming Family Hockey Coach Scholarship was presented to Bison men’s hockey team captain and Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management student Brett Stovin. Read more.

A GAME-CHANGING GIFT FOR BISON CAPTAIN

Thanks to Bison Sports donors and Women’s Hockey coach Jon Rempel, Caitlin Fyten was able to follow her passion at the U of M. Read more.

Bison football alumnus Randy Ambrosie was selected as the 14th Canadian Football League commissioner. Read more.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR RECORD-BREAKING NUMBER OF BISON STUDENT-ATHLETES

117 student-athletes were named Academic All-Canadian status by maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (80%) or better in their field of study.

FORMER BISONS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR HEADED TO MB SPORTS HALL OF FAME

Former University of Manitoba athletic director was named amongst this year’s class of Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame inductees. Read more.

JOINING THE BIG LEAGUE

10 former Bisons and one former Bison staff member joined the Canadian Football League. Read more.

BISON OFFENSIVE LINEMAN GEOFF GRAY SIGNS AS PRIORITY FREE AGENT WITH NFL’S GREEN BAY PACKERS

Garth Pischke completed his 35th season as head coach of the Bison men’s volleyball team. Read more.
