Winnipeg Sun: Manitoba fisheries some of world’s worst-managed
November 10, 2015 —
As a seafood watchdog warns retailers and consumers not to buy fish from Manitoba’s largest lakes, the province is vowing to overhaul management of its fisheries.
Gordon Goldsborough, a University of Manitoba aquatic ecologist, said such the province’s management work is “long overdue.” Goldsborough said fishers recently enjoyed a healthy catch and may need to invest a little to protect the environment they depend on. “It may be a bit of a wakeup call for the industry,” said Goldsborough.
