Fort Garry campus in fall

Upgrades will make Fort Garry campus more inviting

June 4, 2019 —

Construction starts soon at Saunderson Street and Dysart Road east of Robson Hall to complete work started in 2018. Access to Parking Lot B will be closed from the north side of campus. Please use Freedman Cres. to access Parking Lot B from the south.

Next up is University Crescent reconstruction, scheduled to take approximately 15 weeks—and then, raised pedestrian crossings on Dafoe Road, reconstruction of Freedman Crescent, and finally upgrades to make our Fort Garry campus greener and more inviting, with a new multi-use path along Saunderson Street and Dysart Road.

Landscape upgrades along University Crescent will include new seating and drop-off area by the Active Living Centre, median plantings, and pedestrian and cycling improvements.

Later this summer, Freedman Crescent will be rebuilt from Service Street 7 to the bus-staging area (Wpg Transit) and the new multi-use path will be constructed.

See below for the complete timeline and overview. Specific dates and schedule information will follow shortly.

The Fort Garry road renewal program started in 2018 and will span approximately five years. 2018 work included reconstruction of Freedman Crescent beginning east of King’s Drive to Saunderson Street at Dysart Road, just east of the Faculty of Law’s Robson Hall.

What to know:

  • Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be slightly impacted throughout construction.
  • Impacts to Event Day traffic will be minimized as much as possible.
  • Barricades and safety signage to be clearly posted to safely direct pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles as required.
