University of Manitoba president David Barnard pays tribute to Jim Flaherty
The University of Manitoba wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Jim Flaherty, who passed away in Ottawa on April 10.
“Jim Flaherty was an outstanding Canadian who brought remarkable passion, intelligence and dedication to his role as this nation’s finance minister,” says David Barnard, president and vice-chancellor, University of Manitoba, and chair of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. “In his budgets, especially the most recent, Jim Flaherty demonstrated an understanding of the importance of post-secondary education. He supported research and innovation, Aboriginal education and accessibility as critical components for ensuring Canada’s success today and into the future.”
