University Cres. lane reconfiguration

The City of Winnipeg will configure a lane on University Cres. at Dysart Rd. in advance of University Cres. reconstruction anticipated in 2021-22.

Southbound through-traffic on University Cres. at Dysart Rd. will be restricted down to one lane. This lane configuration will be in effect until the intersection is reconstructed (2021-2022). 

The intersection of University Cres. and Dysart Rd. recently had traffic signals installed, which were turned on October 1. Starting on October 3, contractors will begin the lane reconfiguration. This initial work will last approximately 3-4 days.

All information will be posted to the University of Manitoba’s service disruption page as soon as it is received.

The City’s Signals Traffic Engineer has determined, through scenario-testing, that this configuration will provide the safest and most efficient traffic flow at the intersection with the new traffic signals. The intent is also to mitigate the risk of rear-end collisions.

The intersection is being reconstructed as part of the City of Winnipeg’s University Cres. future construction from Chancellor Matheson Rd. to Pembina Hwy.

    Thanks for your question. It’s our understanding that there is one lane of traffic that will include buses.

    Please note that this is City of Winnipeg construction. Any queries should be directed to 311.

    “Southbound through-traffic on University Cres. at Dysart Rd. will be restricted down to one lane.” but East bound Dysart was also restricted to one lane. That’s what caused the issue – 3 lanes merging to 1. I have never been delayed 40 minutes as I was this morning. I felt bad for students who were missing their classes.

    Thanks for your feedback. We have passed it on. Yes, you are correct: The eastbound throughlanes onto Dysart Rd. (which were 2) are also merged into one throughlane. We’ve been apprised that the intersection is being monitored for traffic flow, and that adjustments are still being made to traffic signals and timing. This is City of Winnipeg construction; queries and feedback about timing can be directed to 311.

    The university is a ghost town from April-August. Why do a major construction project August-November? Making students wait up to 4 hours for a bus is unreasonable and could have easily been avoided by closing roads for construction during the quiet spring/summer season instead of waiting for the busies time of the year for the university.

    It sounds like there are additional issues with Transit waits. Because this is City of Winnipeg construction, you can also direct queries and feedback to 311 and Transit issues can be communicated to Winnipeg Transit.

    Instead of just blaming the City of Winnipeg, why doesn’t the university come up with some sort of plan to help students access the university. “Take transit” is not reasonable. Buses are being delayed hours because of the construction. When buses do finally show up, they are full and you cannot get on. You are charging students $10,000+/yr for classes they cannot get to. And your solution is to tell students to call 311 to report their concerns?
