U of M community mourns passing of student
The University community mourns the passing of Govment Iheanetu, a first year student who lived in Residence and was found dead on October 17, 2015.
Sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers are extended to the family and friends of Mr. Iheanetu.
Supports and counselling have been provided to students and others through numerous channels.
The morning after the death, on-site counselling was provided in Residence by the University’s student support case manager. Critical incident stress debriefing was offered to students in Residence on the Monday following the incident. Individual counselling has also been arranged for any students requesting it. As well, debriefing sessions were offered to relevant staff late last week.
Further counselling sessions will be offered as required.
This is the second University communication on this matter; an earlier communication was issued October 21.
Police have investigated and confirmed that the circumstances of the death presented no public threat.
A memorial service in honour of Mr. Iheanetu will be held in the Pembina Hall Student Lounge at 3:00 pm on Monday, November 9. Reception to follow.
