The UM is proud to host the 4th annual Ma thèse en 180 secondes competition !

Trophy with “MT180 First Place”

Ma thèse en 180 secondes  (MT180) is a French-language communication contest launched by Acfas (Association francophone pour le savoir) in 2012, modeling the 3MT competition founded by The University of Queensland in 2008. Each challenger, in three minutes (180 secondes) or less, must present a clear, concise explanation of their research project, in French. 

The challengers for the 2023 MT180 have been announced! 

The students that will be competing in the 2023 event are: 

  • Amanda Belanger –Biological Sciences 
  • Aurelien Caron- Human Anatomy and Cell Science 
  • Brian Si Nhat Nguyen-Food and Human Nutritional Sciences 
  • Courtney Marshall -Immunology 
  • Daniellea Fernandez – Architecture
  • Ernest Edoh- French, Spanish and Italian 
  • Sara Telles-Langdon- Physiology and Pathophysiology 
  • Sofia Salsi-Occupational Therapy, Mental Health 
  • Trevor Grey- Canadian and Intercultural Studies  

The challengers will present their research to a panel of non-specialized judges, where the top Ph.D. candidate will advance to compete in the National competition in May  2023 in Montreal.  

This competition will be broadcast live on the UM  Youtube channel on April 15th 2023. 

“This will be an exciting event to see so many challengers presenting their research in French. I hope many of our community members will watch the event online!” says Kelley Main, Acting Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies. 

 “The large number of challengers shows that the Francophonie and the science in french have their place in Manitoba” says Jean-Eric Ghia, Professor and Honorary Consul of France in Manitoba.

L’UM est fière d’accueillir la 4e édition de “Ma thèse en 180 secondes” !   

Ma thèse en 180 secondes (MT180) est un concours de communication en langue française lancé par l’Acfas (Association francophone pour le savoir) en 2012, sur le modèle du concours 3MT fondé par l’Université du Queensland en 2008. Chaque challenger doit, en trois minutes (180 secondes) ou moins, présenter une explication claire et concise de son projet de recherche, en français.

  Les étudiants qui participeront à l’épreuve de 2023 sont :

  • Aurélien Caron – Anatomie humaine et science cellulaire  
  • Brian Si Nhat Nguyen – Sciences de l’alimentation et de la nutrition humaine  
  • Courtney Marshall -Immunologie  
  • Ernest Edoh- Français, espagnol et italien  
  • Sara Telles-Langdon- Physiologie et physiopathologie  
  • Sofia Salsi – Thérapie occupationnelle, santé mentale  
  • Trevor Grey- Études canadiennes et interculturelles   

Les challengers présenteront leurs recherches à un jury non spécialisé, où la meilleure candidate ou le meilleur candidat au doctorat sera selectionné(e) afin de participer à la finale nationale qui aura lieu en mai 2023 à Montréal.   

Cette compétition sera diffusée en direct sur la chaîne UM Youtube le 15 avril 2023. 

 « Cela va être un événement passionnant, voir ainsi autant de concurrent(e)s présenter leurs recherches en français. J’espère que les membres de notre communauté seront nombreux à regarder l’événement en ligne ! » déclare Kelley Main, doyenne par intérim de la Faculté des études supérieures 

« Le nombre important de candidats montre que la francophonie et la science en français ont toute leur place au Manitoba » mentione Jean-Eric Ghia, Professeur et Consul honoraire de France à Winnipeg.
