The impact of community on Abby Vovchuk’s science journey
Finding her sense of belonging with SJCSA and scholarship success in her thesis research
When you think or hear about the St John’s College Student Association (SJCSA), Abby Vovchuk is a name you will often hear.
As the former Senior Stick and current Assembly Representative, Abby has been involved at St John’s in multiple ways while studying at UM. Since joining the College during the global pandemic, Abby needed a sense of community and belonging during her studies.
Since joining St John’s, Abby has been involved with SJCSA, attended and volunteered at college events, planned the 2023 St John’s graduation banquet, and has dedicated herself to helping out at St John’s wherever needed.
The fifth-year student from the Faculty of Science heads into the final semester of the clinical psychology program, where she continues to study her thesis, “The Social Attitudes Towards Stocking Behaviors.”
As last year’s Hoskins scholarship award winner, Abby hopes to pursue her master’s following her studies this year as she uses this scholarship to open up future career opportunities.
“This scholarship is awarded to students in the Faculty of Science with a high ranking in calculus, so it’s validating to know that I’m on the right path, doing the right thing, and pursuing my passion.”
Congratulations, Abby, on all of your success in the last year!
2024 scholarship and bursary applications open on February 1 with a deadline of April 1.
Join us for our scholarship workshop on January 23, where students will learn how to apply.
