The cover story of the new issue of RadyUM magazine features the “pharm fresh” Class of 2023 – the first grads to complete the new doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) degree at UM.

This spring, for the first time in 20 years, the College of Rehabilitation Sciences’ student-led Physical Therapy Neuro Rehab Clinic brought in students from three additional health disciplines for a trial run of a more holistic approach to patient care.

Over 130 graduate students from across the province, and representing a variety of health disciplines, presented their research in this year’s poster competition at the Manitoba Student Health Research Forum (MSHRF) as part of the three-day event at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. “This event is all about the grad students. It provides opportunity for them to present their research, refine their communication skills and be recognized for their achievements through the large suite of awards,” said Dr. Samantha Pauls, assistant professor at the College of Pharmacy and co-chair of the MSHRF.

When Dr. Peter Nickerson, vice-provost (health sciences) and dean of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, addressed the College of Nursing’s Spring Class of 2023, he noted they were a unique group who began their journey at a historic time.

When Valerie Wiebe [BN/93, MN/99] became the first female president and chief operating officer of Concordia Hospital in 2015, she didn’t know the facility would soon be affected by a complete overhaul of Manitoba’s health-care system.

Mandy Archibald is the 2022 recipient of the Terry G. Falconer Memorial Rh Institute Foundation Emerging Researcher Award in the Health Sciences category.

May 10, 2023 — 
When Dr. Em Pijl joined the College of Nursing as an assistant professor in 2021, she started to look at her research from a different perspective. Pijl is originally from Vancouver, where she worked as a registered nurse in the Downtown Eastside, an area with high levels of homelessness and substance use.

May 8, 2023 — 
The College of Nursing at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences made history this month, as it expanded its bachelor of nursing program and welcomed a third cohort of 120 students at its first summer intake.
