UM scientist makes Arthritis Society Canada’s Top 10 Research Advances list again

A Rady Faculty of Health Sciences researcher might have found a way to predict how a person with early rheumatoid arthritis will respond to treatments based on a sample of their joint lining tissue and the discovery has made Arthritis Society Canada’s Top 10 Research Advances of 2022.

Preterm births decreased during early months of pandemic, global study co-led by UM finds

There was a three to four per cent relative reduction in preterm births (births before 37 weeks gestation) during the first four months of COVID-19 lockdowns, a global study co-led by UM researchers and published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour found.

Senator urges current and future doctors to champion equity, diversity

“You are stronger than you think,” Senator Gigi Osler told an audience of medical students and physicians at a recent UM awards evening. “Even when the outside world is telling you, ‘No, you’re not capable,’ you are,” said the ear, nose and throat surgeon, a trailblazer who has recently taken on a new role in Ottawa as an independent senator representing Manitoba.

Manitoba government announces 80 physician-training seats to be added
February 13, 2023 —
The Manitoba government announced they will be providing funding for 80 additional physician-training seats, which includes 40 new undergraduate physician-training seats, a 10-seat increase in the one-year international medical graduate program and 30 seats in the two-year postgraduate medical education program for internationally educated medical students.
