Creating lasting connections through co-op

Jacinda Flores was a co-op student with a plan: pursue co-op, make a connection and do her best to show an organization like Wawanesa why she would make an incredible permanent employee, all while striving to make a positive impact in the workplace and the world. Co-op was always part of Flores’ plan, and one thing she has learned on this journey is that the benefits of co-operative education and experiential learning at the Asper School of Business reach students and employers alike.

MBA program visits Mauritius, studies sustainability on small island nation

On an island less than half the size of Prince Edward Island (and former home to the dodo bird, no less), an engineer, a financial risk associate and 17 of their peers plant saplings at the Mondrain Nature Reserve, a unique way to earn credit in pursuit of their MBAs at the Asper School of Business. From April 22 to 26, 19 Asper MBA candidates travelled to the Republic of Mauritius, an island nation about 2,000 km off the coast of Madagascar, for the annual MBA study tour.

Applied Business Consulting course an opportunity to earn credit by consulting with real businesses

The business world doesn’t follow a syllabus. Assignments change with client needs, and a consultant’s success is measured not by a grade, but by their ability to uncover, understand and respond to those needs. Students learn this firsthand in the Asper School of Business’ unique experiential learning course, IDM 4050: Applied Business Consulting. While students are supported by their classroom learning—a thorough study of business theory and practice in their BComm—IDM 4050 challenges them to think about how they will use this knowledge to manage client relationships consult real businesses and not-for-profits.

Asper case competition season concludes with prestigious graduate win in business ethics

In the 2023-24 season 80 Asper School of Business teams participated in 37 external competitions, bringing their business insights to cases across North America and to Thailand, Ireland, Lithuania and more.

Asper BComm alum leading business development at New Media Manitoba

Manager of Business Development at New Media Manitoba and Asper alum Corinne Gusnoski [BComm(Hons)/18] spends her days doing everything from consulting with Ubisoft Winnipeg to learning new applications for virtual reality (VR) technology. Despite Gusnoski’s tech-oriented work, her background is in business. Day-to-day, she works with interactive digital media companies and leverages her business expertise to support their goals.

Asper undergraduate team wins first place in not-for-profit case competition and gives back
April 1, 2024 —
Asper students Joshua Peterson, Tyler Roslinsky, Taylor Bially and Sanjana Sabu won first prize at the Alberta Not-for-Profit’s External Case Competition this February, bringing home a $1,500 cash prize, which they donated back to the not-for-profit organization that helped them prepare for the competition.
