Support the United Way Campaign

October 28, 2014 —

A message from David Barnard, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Manitoba:

At the University of Manitoba, we recognize that the success of each citizen is integral to the success of our province. As a university, we facilitate this success not only through education and research, but also through community engagement. That is why we are so proud to once again support the United Way of Winnipeg through the United Way Campaign. The campaign will run from September 29 to November 14. Please join me in making this our most successful year yet!

Last year, our university community raised more than $640,000 for the United Way. This was one of the Top 5 totals raised by any Winnipeg workplace. Our Faculty and Staff members also led the way for donors at the Leadership level (those who contribute a minimum of $1200 annually) placing our institution first in the city with 174 Leaders giving at least that amount. Thank you to the volunteers and donors who made this success possible. Our community is excited to work together once again with the goal to exceed this success in 2015.

This year, we have incredible leaders who will help us achieve that goal. Rod Berscheid, Dr. David Mandzuk, and Dr. Sharon Macdonald are the campaign co-chairs. Dr. Emily Etcheverry will chair the Leaders’ portion of the campaign on the Bannatyne campus, and Dr. Brian Macpherson is chair of our Retirees’ campaign. Thank you to each of these volunteers for their time and commitment.

Included with this letter is a pledge form and information about how to support the campaign. Many of your colleagues have also volunteered to facilitate donations, and may be contacting you shortly. Please consider taking advantage of payroll deduction, which is available starting January 1, 2015. Last year, 749 university employees made campaign contributions. We are very proud of this number, but with more than 8,000 employees at the U of M, we know we can surpass that total in this campaign. Your donation will make a difference!

Please visit www.unitedwaywinnipeg.ca to learn more about how you can support the United Way and the 100 programs, partnerships and services that the United Way funds.

Please give generously to support the United Way of Winnipeg. Thank you again.
