The Academic Learning Centre is pleased to offer free tutor training sessions this fall to all interested UM students.
Even though tutors often already intuitively use appropriate strategies, training can help improve the way a tutor thinks and interacts with students. Some of the topics included in the two-day training are the role of the tutor and the tutor cycle, scaffolding strategies, intercultural tutoring, academic integrity, and content tutoring.
Tutor training will take place online on September 19 and 26 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Interested students must be available for both sessions to receive co-curricular credit for attending.
The ALC has been providing tutor training on the UM campus since 2004. Tutors from Disability Services, ACCESS programs, Aboriginal Focus Programs, the ALC Writing Tutor Program, ALC Content Tutors, Bison Sport Plus, Campus Life, UMES, UM Peers, and the U1 Mentorship Program have all taken part in previous training sessions.
