Remembering Al Numan Addita

February 19, 2021 —

We are deeply saddened to learn today of the tragic death of Agribusiness student Al Numan Addita.

Mr. Addita was one of three University of Manitoba students that died yesterday morning in a car crash north of Winnipeg.

The University of Manitoba released a message about the tragedy this morning and has set the flag at half-mast to honour the memory of the three students.

On behalf of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, I offer my deepest condolences to Al Numan Addita’s family, friends and classmates. We also offer our condolences to the friends and families of the other two University of Manitoba students, Md Aranoor A. Chowdhury and Risul Islam Badhon.

For those who knew Mr. Addita, and indeed for everyone in our University community, this news is very difficult to hear. I want you to know that you are not alone at this time. Students needing support can reach out to the Student Counseling Centre or any of UM’s other counselling options. Staff and faculty can contact the Employee and Family Assistance Program.

UM has a Spiritual Care Coordinator and team of Chaplains to approach if you are feeling distressed or just want to talk. UM’s Health and Wellness office is staffed by a registered nurse who can give one-on-one support and connect you with additional resources. The International Centre can provide international students with help and support in all areas.

A campus-wide vigil has been planned for Tuesday, February 23rd @ 11:15 AM. Details will be provided as they become available.

With sympathy,
Martin Scanlon
Dean, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences
