Payroll changes for 2023

December 21, 2022 —

Several payroll items will take place in the year 2023 and this email will provide a brief overview. Please visit the Payroll site on UM Intranet for more details. Note that you must be logged in with your email address to access employee content on UM Intranet.

CPP/EI Rate change

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contribution rates will increase to 5.95% in 2023 from 5.70% in 2022.

The maximum CPP deduction in 2023 is $3,754.45 (from 2022 $3,499.80).

Employee Employment Insurance (EI) contribution rates will increase to 1.63% in 2023 from 1.58% in 2022.

The maximum EI deduction is in 2023 is $1,002.45 (from 2022 $952.74).

These changes will affect your net pay. Please note CPP/EI deductions stop whenever an individual reaches the maximum contribution for a given year.

For anyone who reached the maximum contribution to their CPP/EI during tax year 2022, you will notice CPP/EI deductions restarting in Jan 2023, hence your net pay will be lower compared to your December deposit.
