Dr. Christopher Adams, adjunct professor of Political Science at the University of Manitoba and author of Politics in Manitoba, says the NDP enjoys popularity in Manitoba because it has a long history in the province, stronger urban support in Winnipeg and northern Manitoba (where unionized, resource town labour is grounded), a policy focus on healthcare and education, strong personal appeal of its leaders, and proven success while governing.
