Join us for this exciting virtual event where we open our doors and showcase our vibrant student and academic life of our faculty.
Every year, the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music hosts an open house for high school students in grades 11 and 12. Prospective students will be able to choose the sessions they want to attend based on their interests, areas of study, and needs. Because this year we will offer a virtual event, students will have the opportunity to attend far more classes, and more meetings with professors and instructors!
Now is your chance to learn why so many students choose to study at the Desautels Faculty of Music. Our engaged and caring instructors and faculty members, our collegial and kind students, our phenomenal ensembles, and our academic rigor make us a leader in Canadian music education.
Students can learn about how to apply and audition for the Desautels Faculty of Music, how to brush up on their music skills for the music theory entrance exam, and get a primer on how the first-year registration process works, before meeting with our Faculty of Music Student Association executives to ask questions about what it’s like to be a student in the Desautels Faculty of Music.

Learning from the best gives you a head-start for what comes after graduation, our professors and instructors will be answering your questions about individual areas of study. Through these sessions, prospective students can get a sneak peek of what the Desautels Faculty of Music curriculum is like and experience first-hand topics and content our faculty members explore in their classes. Students can sit in on as many classes as they would like to get a feel for the learning experience in the Desautels Faculty of Music. From music theory to composition, from techniques classes to masterclasses, students will see how hands-on and fascinating their learning experience will be, and how far it can take them, both musically and academically.
