Fight phishing: Ruin a cyber criminal’s day

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month (Cyber Month) in Canada, and the University of Manitoba is proud to be Get Cyber Safe champions working to help Canadians stay safe online. Cyber Month is an important time to reflect, as individuals and as an organization, on how we can protect ourselves and our loved ones online.

This year’s Cyber Month theme is Fight Phishing: Ruin a Cyber Criminal’s Day. Phishing is a type of scam in which a cybercriminal sends an email, text or direct message pretending to be from a person or organization you know to get them to reveal their sensitive information. In fact, phishing is one of the biggest cyber threats Canadians are facing today. By learning to spot the signs of phishing, you can help ruin a cyber criminal’s day. This month, our Information Security and Compliance team want to help you learn more about keeping cyber safe and have a little fun while we’re at it.

We encourage you to take some time this month to learn how to spot a phish and report a phish. Cyber security is a shared responsibility. If you want to help fight phishing, you can:
