It’s Bison season

October 17, 2014 —

The Bisons football team are looking to get back to their winning ways in the friendly confines of Investors Group Field on Friday night when they host the Saskatchewan Huskies. The football team currently sits in fourth place in the Canada West conference with a 2-3 record, while Saskatchewan is tied for first with a 4-1 season record. Home field has been a distinct advantage for the Bisons as both of their victories this year have been on the University of Manitoba Fort Garry campus.

Kick-off for Friday’s home game will be at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, or online at Ticketmaster.ca.

In men’s hockey, the Manitoba Bisons are on a roll as they have now won four consecutive conference regular season games after an impressive road sweep of the #3 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies over the Thanksgiving weekend. This upcoming weekend, the Bisons host the Mount Royal Cougars at Wayne Fleming Arena for a back-to-back home series.

Puck drop will be 7:00 p.m. on Friday night and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Tickets are available at the door, or online at TicketWeb.ca.

The women’s volleyball team continues their national championship title defence this weekend when they host the Regina Cougars on Friday and Saturday. The Bisons dropped their opening two games last weekend against the Calgary Dinos and will be looking for a better outcome this weekend at Investors Group Athletic Centre.

Meanwhile, the men’s volleyball team is also at home for the second straight weekend, facing Regina on Friday and Saturday at Investors Group Athletic Centre. The Bisons split their season opening series last weekend against Calgary.

Bisons men’s volleyball head coach Garth Pischke is about to hit a major milestone as he is two wins away from breaking the North American all-time coaching win match record for men’s volleyball. Pischke currently sits with 1238 career wins, closing in on the current record set by legendary UCLA coach Al Scates in 2012.

Get your tickets for the weekend action in volleyball, and possibly witness this major milestone. Game time is 6:00 p.m. for the women, 8:00 p.m. for the men on Friday, and 1:00 p.m. for the women and 3:00 p.m. for the men on Saturday. Fans can purchase tickets at the door or online at TicketWeb.ca.

Many of the Bisons varsity teams hit the road this weekend, including:

  • The women’s soccer team takes on the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday and Sunday.
  • The women’s hockey team is in Calgary to face the Mount Royal Cougars on Friday and Saturday.
  • The men’s basketball team is in Ontario for pre-season action against McMaster on Friday night and Wilfred Laurier on Sunday afternoon.
