Dr. Robert B. Macmillan, New Dean of the Faculty of Education
Dr. Robert B. Macmillan received his PhD in education from the University of Toronto in 1996, and joined the Department of Education at St. Francis Xavier University as an academic staff member in 1993. Prior to pursuing graduate studies, he taught high school and served for eight years as a principal in the Quebec elementary and secondary school systems. In 2003, Dr. Macmillan joined the University of Western Ontario, serving as associate dean from 2005 to 2011. As associate dean he advanced the efforts of faculty and helped to create a master’s program in leadership for the Walpole Island and other First Nation’s communities.
Dr. Macmillan continues to be actively involved in innovative academic plan development and redesign, and in developing and enhancing research and graduate student support. He also maintains an active externally-funded research program, focused on school leadership, with a particular emphasis on the role of trust and trust development.
