Fall term is off to a great start!
Science Orientation welcomes 500 new students
The first ever Science Orientation for direct entry students, September 5 & 6, was fantastic! Approximately 500 new undergraduate students attended. Upon arrival they were greeted by 100 enthusiastic student volunteers, faculty members and staff and handed a welcome package. From there, they headed into panel discussions where they received study tips, met their professors, academic advisors, and student representatives. They explored ways to get involved, career, and research opportunities. A fun photo scavenger hunt followed with prize giveaways, there was a BBQ with DJ, a photo booth, bouncy castle, and dunk tank. The following day, 100 first year and 75 second year students participated in the inaugural LabTrek research tours where students had the opportunity to explore the many diverse research opportunities available.
Special thanks to the Science Students Association, (SSA) and all the student volunteers for organizing Science Orientation and making it a success.
Fall term is off to a great start! Welcome all students!
Note: this year the number of students enrolled as of the first day of classes at the University of Manitoba was 29,185, at the Faculty of Science fall enrollment had increased by (2.4 per cent).
