Faculty adds expertise in soil and food sciences
Several new assistant professors joined the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences recently. Click on the links below to learn more about them.
Dr. Inoka Amarakoon joined the Department of Soil Science as Assistant Professor in Environmental Soil Chemistry on July 1. Originally from Sri Lanka, she pursued her graduate studies in soil science here at the University of Manitoba. Inoka shared more about her research and teaching areas, and how that brings together her interests in agriculture and the environment.
Dr. Xiaopeng Gao joined the Department of Soil Science as Assistant Professor in Soil Fertility and Agronomy on September 1. He completed his graduate studies in China and the Netherlands, and then worked at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada before joining the University of Manitoba as a research associate. Xiaopeng talked about his research and teaching areas, and his goal of optimizing and advancing soil fertility and nutrient management.
Dr. Maneka Malalgoda joined the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences as Assistant Professor in Grain Chemistry and Processing Quality on September 1. She completed her graduate studies at North Dakota State University, and then went on to do her postdoctoral training at the University of Minnesota. Maneka described her teaching and research areas, and told us about how she followed her curiosity into the field of food chemistry.
