Deadline extended: Honouring the Indigenous Campus Community 2025
Submit your nominations now and honour those who inspire!
Do you know an Indigenous campus community member who is making a difference? The deadline to submit your nominations has been extended to March 26 at 12:00 p.m.
The Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous) encourages you to nominate Indigenous students, staff and faculty to be recognized at the 2025 Honouring the Indigenous Campus Community event. Visit the Honouring the Indigenous Campus Community webpage for information and details on how to submit your nomination.
“It’s important for us to recognize and celebrate the diverse gifts of the Indigenous campus community. Every day, our fellow students and colleagues are inspiring others in their own unique way, while contributing to generational change.” – Ruth Shead, Executive Director, Indigenous Engagement and Communications
Honourees will be celebrated at a special blanketing ceremony in June. The tradition of being wrapped in a Star Blanket is an honouring experience and expression of gratitude from the community.
Now in its ninth year, this celebration recognizes up to six students, two staff members, one faculty member and one legacy honouree. All student honourees will also receive $250 and acknowledgement on their Experience Record.
Past honourees
At the 2024 recognition ceremony, Brad Albert, a proud Swampy Cree from Kinosao Sipi (Norway House Cree Nation) in Treaty 5 Territory, was celebrated for his leadership, dedication to uplifting others, and embodiment of community, resilience and cultural pride.
“It was a beautiful ceremony of restoring the circle and getting to celebrate your achievements with the community. It was incredible to stand with leaders around the community receiving these awards. I hold this award near and dear to my heart.” – Brad Albert, Student, Pathways to Indigenous Nursing Education program
