CUPE 1482 (Engineering) ratifies revised collective agreement
On Jan. 10, 2023, a revised collective agreement between the University of Manitoba and CUPE 1482 (Engineering) was ratified by union membership. The new agreement is seven years in length, covering the period from Sept. 8, 2018 to Sept. 12, 2025.
CUPE 1482 (Engineering) represents technical and clerical employees in the Price Faculty of Engineering.
President and Vice-Chancellor Michael Benarroch thanks all involved for their hard work. “I congratulate both teams on achieving this long-term agreement,” he says. “We value the significant contributions of these employees in supporting our engineering students, faculty and staff, and in helping to create an outstanding learning and teaching environment at UM.”
The collective agreement’s salary adjustments include a retroactive 0.75% increase in 2020 (as of Sept. 5), a 1% increase in 2021 (as of Sept. 4), a 1.25% increase in 2022 (as of Sept. 3), a 1.5% increase in 2023 (as of Sept. 2) and a 1.75% increase in 2024 (as of Sept. 14).
Other highlights include: a salary restructuring of Steps 7 to 10 (effective Sept. 4, 2021); the addition of “National Day for Truth and Reconciliation” to holidays; improvements to vacation accrual, which entails a reduction in the qualifying period for extra days of vacations so that employees now earn 20 vacation days after 5 years of service, and 25 vacation days after 10 years; and the introduction of standby and callback language.
