July 18, 2014 —

Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada and the University of Manitoba have announced a new multi-year partnership to provide cold beverage services.

“We have been part of the Manitoba community for almost 100 years, and it is our honour to partner with the University of Manitoba,” says Paul Howden, sales unit vice president, Western Canada. “The University of Manitoba is a vital part of the community, not just as a leading Canadian academic institution, but also in serving the people of Winnipeg. As a local business, with employees who live and work in Manitoba, we look forward to working with the University in the years to come.”

“We are pleased to be working with Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada,” says Paul Kochan, vice-president, administration, University of Manitoba. “Coca-Cola will offer several new choices, including the option to pay by credit or debit at vending machines.”

Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada will offer a full range of cold beverages, including Coca-Cola’s sparkling beverages, as well as Dasani water, Minute Maid juices, Powerade and vitaminwater, throughout the University of Manitoba. The partnership includes the Fort Garry Campus, Bannatyne Campus, the University of Manitoba Students’ Union, St. Paul’s College, St. Andrews College and St. John’s College. Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada will also become a sponsor of a variety of student initiatives on campus, including University of Manitoba Athletics, providing funding and sponsorship opportunities in the Max Bell Arena and Investors Group Athletic Centre. Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada will also work with the University to create a Beverage Steering Committee to support student engagement and sustainability initiatives on campus.

Among the changes with Coke’s new contract are a new interactive vending machine in University Centre and the ability to use both credit and debit forms of payment to make purchases in all machines. The vending machines will be installed on both campuses over the summer.
