An image from "The Botanical Magazine; or, Flower-Garden Displayed". Written by William Curtis and printed by Stephen Couchman in London in 1794, this periodical contains descriptions and hand-coloured prints of a variety of flowering and non-flowering plants.

Celebrating Botany, Books, and Beyond

February 13, 2014 — 

An illustartion of a yellow flowering plant from an old botanical bookJoin us to celebrate the launch of an exhibition of contemporary artists’ books and the acquisition of Kew Garden’s journal Curtis’s Botanicals donated to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by the family of renowned Manitoba horticulturalist Frank Skinner.

In addition, early botanicals from the early 1700s and on from the Rare Book Room of Archives & Special Collections will be displayed.

The Artists : Pauline Braun, Janet Carroll, Camille Choboter, Karen Clavelle, Nicole Coulson, Deborah Danelley, Lorraine Douglas, Erwin Huebner, Reitlín Murphy, Ann Stinner

Opening:  Friday, February 14th, 2014
Time: 4:30 pm -7:30 pm
Place: University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections,  330 Elizabeth Dafoe Library, Fort. Garry Campus, Winnipeg, Manitoba

The exhibition will remain open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Special Opening  Evenings: Thursday, February 27, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, March 27, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
