Catalyzing Change
10 years of FAQ
10 years and still going, the Feminist and Queer Review (FAQ) is moving toward publishing another issue. FAQ operates as a collective of undergraduate students, working with faculty in the Women’s and Gender Studies program to produce a full, glossy issue each year.
The magazine has been a home for creative work, academic papers, art, and other expressions of knowledge and experience of University of Manitoba undergraduate students. This year’s organizers have announced the 10th anniversary issue with a call for submissions, as they seek to fill another year’s worth of FAQ.
The missions statement which runs on the first page of every issue reminds the readers of the purpose for this collective and its publication, concluding with the powerful statement “this publication will be a catalyst for change.”
One member of the collective says of the publication, “FAQ benefits the feminist and queer community not only here at the University of Manitoba, but in Winnipeg and Manitoba at large. While the publications are all from undergraduates at our university, their messages and meaning serve to impact lives from elsewhere as well, it’s almost like a ripple effect.” Others agree, saying that FAQ offers a place for voices often displaced in the mainstream, and provides a point for different people to see different viewpoints from what is often represented elsewhere.
FAQ invites submissions by email to submissionsfaq@gmail.com before midnight on Friday, April 13, 2018. Submissions should be accompanied by contact information including preferred name, telephone number (optional), and email address; the collective notes that if an author wishes to remain anonymous they should provide a pseudonym.
