Canadian Architecture Forums on Education (CAFÉ)

September 17, 2019 —

The Canadian Council of University Schools of Architecture (CCUSA) is pleased to announce the launch of the Canadian Architecture Forums on Education (CAFÉ), a series of consultations at architecture schools aimed at informing an Architecture Policy for Canada.

This outreach project will discuss and debate the role of architectural education and research in shaping Canada’s future. Twelve schools of architecture will participate in five forums at five Universities across the country during the 2019-2020 academic year.

The dates for the events are:

October 7, 2019 – CAFÉ Atlantic, Dalhousie University
November 11, 2019 – CAFÉ Québec, Université de Montréal
February 6, 2020 – CAFÉ Ontario, Ryerson University
February 28, 2020 – CAFÉ Prairie, University of Manitoba – stay tuned for more details
March 12, 2020 – CAFÉ West, University of Calgary

The knowledge and ideas mobilized through these forums will inform the development of an architecture policy for Canada. The forums will enable students, educators and academic researchers to play meaningful roles in articulating the policy’s priorities, ambition and depth of vision.

This CAFÉ initiative is led by CCUSA, representing all CACB-accredited architecture programs in Canada, with the support of a Connection Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Further support is provided by participating university institutions and the Canadian Architecture Students Association (CASA).

The national policy initiative—to which these CAFÉs contribute—is jointly led by CCUSA, the Canadian Architectural Licensing Authorities (CALA), and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
