Bisons’ season comes to a close with plenty to celebrate

Fan appreciation event planned for March 25

March 18, 2019 —

The 2018-19 Bison season – now in the books – was packed with excitement, success and a great show of pride and fan support throughout.

An impressive Bison display of academic achievement, community leadership and athletic prowess put many marks in the record books making it a year to remember.

“On behalf of the University of Manitoba, I would like to extend congratulations to our Bison student-athletes, teams and coaches for a successful 2018-19 season,” said David Barnard, University president and vice-chancellor. “The commitment of our student-athletes is extraordinary, and I commend them for their commitment to Bison programs and to the University.”

Notable accomplishments from the past season include Kelsey Wog’s record-breaking swim and capture of four gold medals at the U SPORTS swimming championships; a gold medal run by the men’s track 4 x 800-metre relay team of Jack Taylor, Connor Boyd, Matt Van Schepdael and Simon Berubé; and a golden leap by high jumper Alhaji Mansaray at the 2019 Track and Field Championships.

“We are extremely proud of all our athletes and coaches for their tremendous efforts this season,” says Gene Muller, U of M director of athletics and recreation. “More so, we are grateful to our fans, especially the U of M community of students, faculty and staff who show their Bison pride in so many ways.”

The Bisons and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management would like to thank the university community for their support and celebrate their achievements of the past year.

Bring your friends and join your favourite teams, student-athletes and Billy the Bison for a special event on Monday, March 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in UMSU University Centre for a fun-filled and interactive event with games, music, cake, coffee and more.
